If you’re looking for a great place to enjoy delicious Chinese cuisine in Hong Kong, Summer Palace at the Island Shangri-la should be on top of your list.  This restaurant specializes in Cantonese cuisine, artistically rendered by Master Chef Lee Keung.  If you want the taste of classic Cantonese dishes, delicacies, and snacks, Summer Place is one of the best places to get them.

The ambiance of Summer Palace is a good fusion between traditional Chinese interior design and modern contemporary styles.  When you enter the restaurant, you get a feel that it’s a Chinese restaurant, without losing the touch of modernity.  The chandeliers, Chinese paintings, delicate lighting and furniture all add up to give a touch of class to the place.  You’re sure you’re entering a first-class restaurant.

As for the food, you can enjoy the classics such as Shark’s Fin soup, Bird’s Nest, and the ubiquitous Dim Sum.  A sample menu from  Summer Palace features sliced barbecue suckling pig as appetizer, crispy chicken with herbs, and stewed spare ribs for the main course.  You can also try the sago cream with mango juice for dessert.  If you’re asking if the food there is really good, well, Summer Palace was given two stars by the Michelin Guide.  Another accolade is being part of the “Great Hotel Restaurants in the World,” as judged by Hotels Magazine from the US.  So if you’re wondering whether you’ll get great food and service, wonder no more.

Summer Palace is at the 5th level of the Island Shangri-la.  The required attire is smart casual.  The restaurant, like other dining establishments in Hong Kong, is smoke-free.  The price?  It is on the high side, but it is worth every cent.  The only best way to know is to sample the dishes here and enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant.
