Shang Palace: Combining the Best of the East and West
May 21st, 2009
As Shenzhen has quickly become a commercial and financial center for China, it also brought in Western establishments and culture. It’s not strange to find famous Western fastfood establishments here such as California Grill, NYPD Pizza, and Taco Bell. But being in Shenzhen would lose its meaning if you don’t indulge in the local cuisine. If you want to retain the Western setting and combine it with traditional and local Chinese dishes and delicacies, then one suggestion is to go to the Shang Palace.
The Shang Palace is located at the Shangri-la Hotel in Shenzhen. The name Shangri-la deserves no more explanation; you should know that you’re entering a classy place that’s tantamount to luxury and excellent service. The Shang Palace, in particular, features contemporary western designs for its interiors, while offering classic Chinese cuisine. Part of its menu is the well-known Shark’s Fin Soup and Dim Sum. If you want to go for a more exotic meal, you can also enjoy ginseng and lotus roots for starters and dessert. You should also order delicious Shenzhen delicacies such as Shajing oysters and the Xixiang greasy-back shrimp. You can enjoy the best that Shenzhen and Chinese cuisine has to offer, while dining in a stylish and luxurious Western setting.
The dress code for the Shang Palace is smart casual. There are smoking and non-smoking areas inside the restaurant. As you can gather, dining here would be costly, same with dining in a five-star hotel. But you can be sure that you get every cent of what you’ve paid for in terms of service, quality, and, of course, the food. Especially for tourists, dining in this restaurant could be an unforgettable experience as they get to sample the best of Chinese cuisines.
